Eul awarded October Player of the Month
After a dominating month in the mid lane, varsity League of Legends player Owen "Eul" Bains has been awarded Player of the Month for October.
Eul has become the cornerstone of success and a pillar of support for St. Clair College's varsity League of Legends team. A freshman in the Esports Administration and Entrepreneurship Program, Eul has been turning heads since tryouts over the summer. Despite being targeted by multiple bans in drafts, he has dug deep into his champion pool to find key advantages in his lane that translate into a victory screen for his team.
Eul exemplifies a leadership standard whether it be on the Rift with his shot calling and playmaking ability, or off of it assisting his teammates with academics. He sets the tone for practices and matches, lays out the marks that the team needs to hit and calls plays well in advance to ensure success. Backed by top laner Andre "Phrez" Seguin, jungler Justin "AM Trick" McGregor, AD carry Loi "1azy" Rahlan and support Zachary "Mianspho" Dillen, this phalanx formation of players has accomplished more than any of the college’s League of Legends teams before them.
Just over a month into the season, the Saints League of Legends roster has already become the most successful League team in the program’s history. The team has compiled a 10-2 record, including winning the Drury Invitational tournament. The team amassed a 8-1 record in the tournament taking down varsity teams from the U.S. including Northwood University, Indiana Tech, and Illinois College who they defeated 2-1 in the grand finals. Eul was named to the All-Tournament 1st Team after topping many of the leaderboards. In the group stage, he held the highest CS per-minute and second-highest gold per-minute along with the second-most kills in the knockout stage with 49, trailing only teammate 1azy who had 58.
The team’s greatest win to date came over cross-town rivals University of Windsor when they faced off for the first time ever in OPSE. After losing Game 1, the Saints were able to bounce back with two dominating wins to cap off the series.
"It’s amazing to see so much talent on the team this year and it’s a huge sigh of relief knowing that when the team gets into the game, they're not on their own. Owen has been incredible in communicating the winning recipe, carefully detailing a strategy. Any of these players could have been the MVP in my eyes after last weekend's Drury Invitational, though Owen inches out," said League of Legends Coach Yuri "Blazin" Custodio.
Honorable mentions: Zachary “Bailable” Schryer (Overwatch), Noah “Kira” Aalders (Rainbow 6 Siege), Jordan “JoMoJg” Monforton (Fortnite), Simon “Günther” Beaudoin (Hearthstone)
