“The amount of talent we have been able to bring to St. Clair this year has been outstanding,” said Assistant Esports Director Chris Funston. “It shows the ability of our program to attract top talent not just locally, but at the national and international level. We’re looked at as a premier esports destination for aspiring students across the world.”

Standout international recruits to the St. Clair varsity rosters include:

  • Rocket League Player Niels Seebann, of Germany

This past year, the Saints received over 500 applications from 28 countries. With the help of the St. Clair International Department, the varsity esports team was able to recruit high-level international talent to their rosters for the first time.

“The increasing global popularity of esports, paralleled with the huge success of the Saints Varsity program has presented new opportunities for the International Department to market St. Clair College as a premier designation for higher education in Canada,” said Nathaniel VeltKamp, Director of International Education.

“In 2017, when the program launched, one of our goals was to make St. Clair College a destination school for people interested in esports. This year’s recruiting class demonstrates with absolute certainty that we’ve accomplished that goal,” added Esports Director Shaun Byrne. “We’ve solidified our spot as a premier program and players from all around the world are reaching out for a shot to compete for one of our rosters.”
