St. Clair to host League Impact Series Grand Finals on Oct. 10

St. Clair College will welcome the League Impact Series (LIS) Grand Finals to the Esports Nexus Arena on Saturday, October 10, bringing together two of the top League of Legends Game Changers teams to compete for the inaugural championship.

The LIS is a tournament for women and marginalized genders. The Grand Finals match up features teams representing pro teams FlyQuest and Team Liquid.

The LIS was developed by esports organization Blue Otter to provide a structured competitive pathway and renewed opportunities for players in a scene that has lacked a consistent North American Game Changers competition in recent years.

“Events like the League Impact Series are incredibly important for the growth of Game Changers esports,” said Valerie Shih-Lau, Esports Marketing & Event Manager. “It’s one thing to create opportunities to compete online, but bringing these players into a professional esports environment and putting them on a stage elevates the experience for everyone involved. We’re proud to provide a venue where these competitors can showcase their talent, and we’re excited to see the level of competition that the League Impact Series has produced.”

The Saints Esports program supported the LIS throughout its inaugural season, with students working closely with Blue Otter throughout the season. Students were given opportunities to  gain practical experience in broadcasting, production and event operations while supporting a tournament designed to expand opportunities for underrepresented competitors in League of Legends esports.

“When we look at hosting an event, we don’t see it as a one-and-done opportunity,” added Shaun Byrne, Esports Director. “The event itself is the splash, but the experience, relationships and opportunities it creates for our students are the ripple. We want to build meaningful partnerships that extend beyond a single day and give our students experiences they can carry with them long after the event is over.”

For the St. Clair Esports program, hosting the Grand Finals is a continuation of the commitment to establishing the Saints Esports Nexus and St. Clair College as a destination for amateur, collegiate, and professional esports events.

The LIS Grand Finals will take place Saturday, October 10 at 2 p.m. at the Saints Esports Nexus Arena, 2000 Talbot Road, Windsor, Ontario. Admission to the event is free.
